English for Adults (false) beginners ( Level A1 & A2): Inclusive, Holistic EFL learning.

This two week intensive course is designed to cover the needs of adults (false) beginners in English Language
up to levels A1 & A2 as they are cited in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR.

The curriculum is planned to comply with the needs of the “basic user” as they are described in the Global
scale – Table 1 (CEFR 3.3): Common Reference levels. In addition, the everyday learning by doing activities
will give adult learners the chance to gain deep insights of the local history and culture and cultivate life-
long autonomous learning skills.

By the end of this course adult learners will have developed the basic linguistic competence to attend
Erasmus courses of their choice in English as well as sufficient sociolinguistic competence which will help
them to feel confident to communicate and satisfy everyday needs, while being in Heraklion or elsewhere.

Linguistic
Develop the four skills required in EFL learning (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing) up to CEFR A1 & A2 levels


Skills
Develop cooperative and active life-long learning skills through team learning activities.


Attitudes
Develop sociolinguistic understanding to communicate using English, which is a prerequisite for nurturing
global active citizenship.

Methods & Tools

  • The curriculum activities are informed by Adult Education and in particular Transformative Education theories.
    Learners will get involved in active, cooperative learning. The direct method of teaching EFL will be applied,
    therefore, no prior knowledge of English is required.
    In virtual learning contexts (presentations) films, art, artifacts and other multisensory texts will be used.
    Active learning will be realized with workshops in real life places: town historical center, markets, streets,
    restaurants, historical and cultural sites and monuments

In course fee includes
